Since the 1948, Ford has marketed and manufactured a series of trucks known as the Ford F-Series.

The Ford F-Series is a full-size pickup that sits above the Ford Ranger in the Ford truck model lineup.

With the fourth-generation F-Series pickup, Ford developed a completely new design of pickup in 1961.

These trucks were longer and lower than their predecessors, with larger dimensions and new engine and gearbox options.

In addition, the 1961–1963 models included an optional unibody construction that combined the cab and bed.

At the same time, the usual separate cab/bed was available.

Ford dropped the unibody option after the 1963 model year because it was unpopular.

The F-Series received a major mid-cycle facelift in 1965. A fully new platform was developed, incorporating the "Twin I-Beam" front suspension, which was utilised until 1996 and on the F-250/350 4x2 until 2016.

Furthermore, the Ranger moniker first appeared on a Ford pickup in 1965; earlier, the Ranger was used to signify a base model of the Edsel, but starting in 1965, it was used to denote a high-level styling package for F-Series pickups.
