The vessel participated in fleet cover operations from September 1939, conducted commerce raider interdiction in October 1939, and supported the Norwegian Campaign in April 1940. While covering troop transport to Crete in March 1941, HMS York suffered crippling damage from two Italian explosive-laden boats in Souda Bay on the 25th. British forces beached the damaged cruiser on a sandbar to prevent sinking. Unable to undergo meaningful repairs, the hull was subsequently repurposed as an anti-aircraft battery before being destroyed by the Luftwaffe; post-war salvage operations concluded in Greece. Kit features multi-directional slide-molded hull construction, detailed deck wood patterning, engraved nameplate, and included photo-etched parts.
